Hollow metal doors and frames for block walls and back-of-house
Hollow metal doors for back-of-house, service corridors and exterior openings in block walls, supplied and installed by our own crew.
Where hollow metal earns its place
Hollow metal is the working door of a building. It sits in the service corridor, at the back of the kitchen, on the mechanical room and in the exterior opening where the wall is concrete block and the door has to take a beating. The photo on this page shows exactly that: a grey hollow metal door set into a block wall.
These are the openings nobody admires and everybody depends on. They get propped, kicked, hit with carts and rained on, so the door, the frame and the hardware need to be chosen as a set.

A frame is only as good as how it meets the wall
In masonry, the frame is anchored into the block, and the way it is set decides how the door will behave for years. A frame that is out of plumb gives you a door that rubs, a closer that never quite latches and a gap at the strike that lets daylight through.
We supply Daybar Hollow Metal Doors & Frames and set them with our own crew, then hang the door, fit the hinges and adjust the closer until the leaf swings freely and latches every time. Closers and hinges come from the hardware lines we carry, including Hager and Global Door Controls.
If the opening is on a schedule, we price it from the schedule. Send the drawings to our commercial estimating desk and we will include the frame, the door and the hardware set on one line.
What West Palm Beach weather does to steel
Humidity and salt air go for the bottom edge of a steel door first, where water collects and the paint is thinnest. Rust shows there long before the rest of the door looks tired. Paint failing at the edges, hinges that bind and a closer that has drifted out of adjustment are the other early signs.
Sometimes a door can be re-hung and its closer reset. Sometimes the bottom edge has gone far enough that replacing the leaf is the honest answer. We will tell you which one it is when we look at it.

Bottom edge
Look here first for rust, where standing water and salt air do the most harm.
Paint
Chipped paint on a steel leaf is an open invitation to moisture, so it gets touched up or recoated.
Closer
A closer that slams or stalls is a quick adjustment, and a failed one is a swap.
